‘The Cut’ is a one-day tournament organised by East End Canoe Polo
Club, held annually around August or September.
The venue includes toilets, showers and changing facilities. Unfortunately,
there will not be any facilities to sell food or drink on site; however, there
are shops just a short walk away by Shadwell station.
We invite all teams to register their interest online and we will determine
the format of the competition based on entries.
When
Provisional timings are 9am – 6pm, to be confirmed when entries are finalised. This will be followed by drinks at the Prospect of Whitby pub.

Entry for the tournament is £80 per team. These funds enable us to cover access to Shadwell Basin, the event running costs and prizes.

Boat Storage
Boats must be kept in the boat park (the flat area on the other side of the car park, near to the slope into the water).
While we have not experienced any problems in the past, East End Canoe Polo cannot take responsibility if anything happens to personal kit, so it is your responsibility to keep an eye on kit throughout the event.
FIRST AID
First aid equipment will be onsite and available in the Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre.
LOST AND FOUND PROPERTY
You must look after your personal valuables at all times as East End Canoe Club and Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre cannot take responsibility for any losses. We have not had any issues in the past, but Shadwell Basin is a public space with high levels of footfall.
Please report any lost property to the timekeeping desk.
LITTER
Please use rubbish bins provided.
TOILETS
Female and male toilets are available within the Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre.
PARKING
Parking is available on the streets around the venue. A limited amount of parking is available at Shadwell Basin. There should be lots of free parking but please check any local street signs to avoid parking tickets as East End Canoe Club and Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre cannot take responsibility for any charges.
RESPECT
Shadwell Basin have been supportive of East End Canoe Club in providing their venue and we want this to continue for future competitions. Please remember that the Basin area is surrounded by residential housing and used by other members of the public who are not here for the competition, so we ask that each and every one of you shows respect to our neighbours.
Foul language is not acceptable. If you use foul language, you should also expect to receive the appropriate sanctions (e.g. cards) from the referees. If there are any incidents that occur, we will not hesitate to call the right authorities.
REFEREES’ AND TEAM iNFORMATION

We will be playing according to the latest ICF rules . As part of this we will be playing with a shot clock if available. To ensure a high standard of refereeing, please ensure that your team provides a suitably qualified referee.

The first name team will provide both the timekeeping table team and 1 referee for the game immediately after the one they’ve just played. The second name team will then provide 1 further referee. We appreciate the changeover is going to be tight, so we therefore urge all teams to keep celebrations to a minimum and to be on time for their allocated duties.
Please ensure that you have adequate warm clothing available nearby (clothing can be left with the timekeeper prior to your match).
All referees should bring their own whistles, to avoid sharing. Bibs (which must be worn) will be available at each referee’s position. Referees on the pontoon will be required to wear a buoyancy aid.
SCRUTINEERING
Scrutineering checks may occur during the weekend.
Deciding between tied positions
In the event of two teams having an equal number of points in the league, the positioning will be decided by the following factors (in order):
- Highest goal difference
- Highest number of goals scored
- Fewest cards
Format of Final or Playoff Matches
Where a winning result is required, the golden goal rule will apply, including:
- Two periods of five minutes each way will be played. Teams will change ends between halves. There will be a one-minute half time.
- If at the end of extra time, there is still no result then a tiebreaker shoot-out will apply.
